When the Dot NET generic top-level domain name extension was first set up in 1985, together with the first domain extensions on the World Wide Web, it was intended to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure establishments. In view of the fact that there were no specific prerequisites about the usage of the TLD, though, dot NET domains were booked and used for diverse purposes and by scores of people.
